Longship will help the world achieve the climate goals set by the Paris Agreement of 2015. Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg is convinced of this.
According to the Norwegian Prime Minister, meeting the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement will be far more costly if carbon capture and storage projects are not implemented on a larger scale. “The project we are currently developing is a very important step.It will ensure that we will be able to store carbon dioxide safely. It will show the way to other countries that decide to move in the same direction as us, “said Solberg.
Carbon capture has long been talked about within the professional community and is emphasized as one of the ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. So far, however, there are only a few commercially used projects. Norway tried one of these ten years ago. The facility was to be part of a local gas power plant. However, the state-owned mining company Equinor, later renamed Statoil, did not complete the project, saying it was too expensive. So this is the second attempt for Norway, and not only the government believes it will be successful.
