Italian group Enel strengthens renewable energy business in Brazil

The energy company Enel plans to invest heavily in renewable energy in Brazil in the coming years, especially in photovoltaic and wind power plants.

“We will build an additional 3,000 megawatts of installed renewable capacity in Brazil over the next three years. And even more renewables will come in the years to come, because you have a really big wind and photovoltaic potential,” Enel Group CEO Francesco Starace told Brazil.

Renewables in Brazil

Enel intends to invest nearly €10 billion in renewable energy projects in Latin America between 2022 and 2024. Half of this sum is to go to Brazil. The most populous countries on the South American continent account for 40 percent of Enel’s projects in Latin America. Over the next two years, this share is expected to increase to 60 to 70 percent.

Enel Green Power

Enel Green Power, the renewable energy arm of the Enel Group, today operates more than 4,700 megawatts of installed capacity in renewable energy plants in Brazil. About half of this is accounted for by wind projects, with the remainder divided between photovoltaic and hydroelectric power plants.
