German carmaker Volkswagen surprised itself and the market with the number of electric cars delivered to China for the first nine months of this year. In doing so, she was still talking in July about the need to change the strategy for the market of the world’s most populous country.
Volkswagen Group delivered 47,200 electric cars to the Chinese market between January and September. In the same period last year, it was just 15,700. Thus, the year-on-year number of electric cars delivered by Volkswagen to China has tripled. Meanwhile, the German automaker has spoken recently about the need to change strategy just for China.
“We managed to substantially increase our electric car sales in China in the third quarter, which we planned. We are on track to get soon to the annual sales of between 80 and 100 thousand units of our models from the ID family.,” Christian Dahlheim, head of the business division, said according to Reuters agency Volkswagen.
A Volkswagen executive said in July that the Concern needed to focus on changing its approach to China’s electric car market. Indeed, the German carmaker sold just over 18,000 electric cars in China for the first half, which was seen as disappointing.
